Pascal Rekoert, a native of Gouda, Netherlands, trained at the Rotterdam Dance Academy (currently Codarts) and the High School of the Performing Arts, Amsterdam. In Europe he danced with Achanis (NL), Dancetheatre Arena, working with choreographers Suzy Blok, Christopher Steel, Conny Janssen, Thierry Smits &Kim van der Boon (NL), Tempo Dances (GB) and Bronkhorst & Jongewaard (NL).   In 1998 he performed in The Fall, a piece by Truus Bronkhorst and Marien Jongewaard which garnered acclaim as "the dance document of the 90's," receiving the coveted Prix d’Auteur du Conseil Général de la Seine-Saint-Denis in Paris, France.

Rekoert, who is currently the Dance Education Director at Central Connecticut State University, has taught master classes throughout the US, Italy, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Mexico, Bolivia, and Thailand and has taught side-by-side with Madonna dancer “Slam” in 2003. He has choreographed commercially for companies like Levi’s, Motorola, Dockers, PTT Dutch Royal Communications, L’Oreal Paris,  Berenik, and Dutch celebrity designers Mart Visser and Dick van der Vlies. Since 2000, Rekoert has produced a wide variety of festivals and performance series in New York City: WestFest which featured companies from the UK, Israel, and Canada; The HATCH Presenting Series; The HATCHed Sequel Series; and the dance film series Canned Unicorn at The Rover SoHo.

As a choreographer, Mr. Rekoert has presented his own work in theaters in Switzerland, Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and throughout the United States. In the Tri-State area Mr. Rekoert's most influential project was the hilarious Burger Nation, presented May 2004 at the Flea Theater NYC, and MaSs, performed at the 2006 International Wave Rising Festival (NY). Described as “magnetic and intricate,” (the Dutch Volkskrant, 2001) Mr. Rekoert’s work is known for its high artistic standards and innovative movement vocabulary.

With his dance company Flexicurve, Rekoert has shown works locally at the DanceNow Festival, Catch Series/ Galapagos Art Space, The Flea Theater, Photographic Gallery, the Puffin Room, d.u.m.b.o. Dance Festival, COOL NY Dance Festival, International Wave Rising Festival, WAX Works, Construction Company, SWEAT at DeBaun Auditorium & Out Of Doors, Go! Dance Festival, Montclair State University theaters, Wien Theater in Fairfield CT, The Gershwin Hotel, Joyce SoHo, Symphony Space & Citigroup Theater at the Alvin Ailey Center, among others. 

Rekoert has also worked with various filmmakers since the beginning of his career in 1994. In 2000, he choreographed for the Dutch short dance film Erasmus Spitzen, Crossing a Bridge on Points, which premiered at the International Rotterdam Film Festival and is currently part of various northern Europe art video collections & museums. In 2008, Rekoert autonomously ventured out into cyber-space with the first Portable Art dance film festival bringing 35 short dance films to portable devices, such as iPhones, and iPods.

Rekoert has received generous support from the Westbeth Artists Residents Council (2009/ 2010 & 2010/ 2011). Also, Rekoert received support from The Field for a two-week residency at the dance facility of celebrity dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov at White Oak Plantation in Florida (2008).  Prizes and awards include the Chashama “Best Short Film Award” in 2008, and the Prix d’Auteur du Conseil Général de la Seine-Saint-Denis in Paris, France (1998). Recently, Mr. Rekoert was a recipient of The Laurie M. Tisch Illumination Fund which fully subsidized his graduate studies.

Mr. Rekoert was a premier dancer and Associate Artistic Director with Jennifer Muller/ The Works [JMTW], a contemporary dance company that has toured 39 countries on four continents, and has appeared in theaters from Hong Kong and Tel Aviv to American initiatives like the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and a performance at the Museum of Modern Art. He has assisted Artistic Director Jennifer Muller with choreographies with New York City Opera, but also performances at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall and in countries like Bolivia, Thailand, China, and Brazil. Highlights with JMTW include a performance at the United Nations (June 2006), a performance for US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at Downtown for Democrats (October 2004), and a feature in the Capezio Dance Clothing Catalogue.

Mr. Rekoert is a Lincoln Center Scholar who completed his master’s degree in an inaugural partnership program between Lincoln Center Education and CUNY Hunter College. In June 2016, he graduated with NHSDA Honors and was selected to present NYC DoE Chancellor Carmen Fariña with the President’s Medal during the CUNY Hunter Commencement ceremony. He also received the score of 'Mastery' on his EdTPA (culminating teacher performance assessment portfolio). As of the 2019/2020 school year, he is an Assistant Professor at Central Connecticut State University, teaching dance and dance education undergraduate students. Currently, he is pursuing a doctoral degree as part of the inaugural Ed.D. in Dance Education cohort at Teachers College, Columbia University.
