This is a reading based ESL lesson I created with a classmate. The lesson was designed to be part of a unit based on the idea that animals show emotions that parallel those of humans. The lesson was delivered to other New York City Teaching Fellows and has not been used in a true classroom setting.
This link is for a worksheet that was used for a pre-reading activity.
Students read parts of the poem in pairs and were tasked with drawing pictures to illustrate each of the voices represented within the poem.

Later in the lesson students learned that the voices of the poem belonged to a fish and to the ocean. Students then read the entire poem.
